Hendrix Makes Major League Baseball Debut

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Former Texas A&M standout Ryan Hendrix made his Major League Baseball debut Friday evening with 1.0 inning of scoreless relief for the Cincinnati Reds.
 
Hendrix worked a perfect sixth inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced, in the Reds' 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
 
A fifth-round selection by the Reds in the 2016 MLB Draft, Hendrix became the 59th Aggie to make the Major Leagues. He paid his dues with four minor league seasons in addition to last season's dormant campaign. He was stellar in his most recent minor league term, posting a 3-0 record with two saves, a 2.33 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19.1 innings with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts in 2019.
 
The Cypress, Texas, product was a three-year letterman at Texas A&M, pitching from 2014-16. Hendrix's career stats in Aggieland include a 6-7 record with 10 saves, a 4.74 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 93.0 innings. His best season came in 2015 when he posted a 6-4 mark with five saves, a 3.66 ERA and 69 strikeouts over 59.0 innings. In 2015, he also pitched for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, logging three saves in seven games. He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning in a three-pitcher no-hitter against the Cuban National Team.
 
Hendrix is the first Aggie to make their MLB Debut this season. Texas A&M has had six players see MLB action in 2021, including A.J. Minter (Atlanta Braves), Tyler Naquin (Cincinnati Reds), Brooks Raley (Houston Astros), Ross Stripling (Toronto Blue Jays) and Michael Wacha (Tampa Bay Rays). Hendrix is the 19th Aggie to make their MLB debut since 2000.
