Rutgers' C. Vivian Stringer announced that she will retire in September after 50 years and 1,055 wins as a head coach.
Stringer is one of several pioneers in women's college basketball who will retire before the 2022-23 season. In March, Arizona State coach Charli Turner Thorne announced she was retiring after 25 seasons in Tempe. Sue Semrau, the winningest coach in Florida State women's basketball history, also announced her retirement.
And longtime Texas A&M coach Gary Blair had previously announced he would retire at the end of the 2021-22 season.
